Main Fast Off-beat Variation 1
There's a couple variations of the Main Fast Off-beat.
The first variation is simple enough in theory, however it
takes a bit of practice. All you have to do is to add an extra
"ge" on the "1."
You may remember that I pointed out that for simplicity, we
sometimes number the notes tiri *ti ta as
"one-two *THREE four.”
In Lesson 13 we learned that the Main Fast-off Beat is created
by hitting a soft ge on the 2 and a loud Ge on the 3. In terms of
a mrdanga mantra it looked like this: tidha *Duk
ta.
Now, all you have to do is add a soft ge on the "1"
and you've got the variation down.
Of
course, there's a mantra for that. The mantra is as
follows:
dukdha *Duk ta
There are no pauses, and it's played really fast. But I think
the mantra above looks confusing and it's certainly hard to
say really fast. It's harder to say than Five Fairly Pleasant
Featherly Phasants Flying to Florida. If you can't say it
fast, then forget it! Use the number system. Substitute numbers
for tiri *ti ta and hit a soft ge on the 1 and 2 and
a loud Ge on the 3. Don't hit a ge on the 4, because it's an
off-beat. That's it.
So there you have it.
